Practical Surf Classes

The teaching methods applied in the EasyDrop surf lessons were developed by the company itself and are considered by many a global “benchmark” in surf schooling.

"I don't think I truly realized how good your school was until 4 months after my trip when I bought an 8'6", went surfing in Oregon, and found myself catching pretty much everything I paddled for! Before I did your camp I could barely stand up on a long board, last month I was in Costa Rica and found the pop-up technique I learned with you guys was easy to transfer to a short board, it was great!"

Ben - USA - April 2006

To develop our teaching program, we analyzed all factors and details involved in surfing, and built individual teaching steps in order to facilitate the learning process of the techniques.

Whenever possible, we teach these steps independently from each other and in first place on land, with body movements only, before attempts on the waves.

Besides, varieties in the teaching and execution of each surfing technique were also developed, in this manner allowing for the bio-mechanical characteristics of each student to be fulfilled with maximum efficiency.

General Surf Class Setup

General Surf Class Setup

Our practical surf lessons are held in groups of up to 12 students, with the school providing at least 1 professional instructor for every 3 students.

For the specific training of the surfing techniques, the group is divided into sub-groups of students with similar habilities.

If the surfing level of a student does not fit in within the level of other participants in the group, this student will then have individual lessons without additional costs.

Meanwhile, universal lesson topics are shared among all participants in the group. Besides, the analisys of the daily video recordings during theoretical lessons are also done with the whole group together. In this manner, not only is a process of reciprocal learning encouraged amongst the students with diferent levels of surfing, but there is also a mingling of the cheerful vibe between the students, which is a registered trademark of the EasyDrop Surf School.

With this configuration, we are able to meet the needs of all surfing levels, from complete beginners to advanced surfers.

Beginner's learning techniques

Beginner's learning techniques

The EasyDrop learning techniques for beginners are organized as follows:

During the first half of a complete (2-weeks) beginners course our students learn and train the basic techniques involved in surfing, namely:

  • paddling techniques in detail
  • sitting on the board (and keep sitting!)
  • quick controlled turn while sitting
  • paddling turns
  • diving under board (turtle diving)
  • "emergency brake" just before taking off
  • controlled wiping out
  • paddling for waves
  • standing up and surfing (straight) on broken foam waves
  • vertical tip- and tail control during a surf ride
  • controlled turning on broken foam waves
  • complete sea-condition appraisal sessions

During the second half of a complete beginners course, the recently learned techniques are applied in real waves situations (outside), with vigilant observation and assistance of the EasyDrop instructors (equipped with in-water radio system) and the camcorders.

Intermediate/Advanced Surfer's schooling

Intermediate/Advanced Surfer's schooling

For intermediate and advanced students we develop individual training-plans whose aim is the systematic improvement of technique through the application of specific exercises and individual coaching, as well as support by video control.

They also count on the use of radios in the water.

Special instructors with many years of competition experience assist the advanced student with professional suggestions and tips.
